The Adventures of Cavman – Freelance Animation
I worked for the University of Virginia (UVA) as a freelance computer graphics artist between the Summer of 2005 and the Winter of 2008. Although I occasionally created 3D models of ACC mascots, my main responsibilities revolved around animating fight sequences between ACC mascots and UVA’s mascot, Cavman, using Maya and Motionbuilder.
These short movies were presented on the jumbotron before the start of home football and basketball games (potentially in front of tens of thousands of individuals) to get the crowd excited for the game. Every short movie showcased Cavman outwitting and defeating the opposing team’s mascot in front of backgrounds that were shot depicting various locations on UVA’s campus.
The Satan Project – Short CG Movie
I developed The Satan Project with four individuals over a period of six weeks. My main responsibilities included producer, writer, director, and animator for Satan’s body movements. The Satan Project stands out as the best short movie I have ever helped create. To this day, I am extraordinarily happy that we were able to create a humorous, story-based short movie that utilized lip-syncing throughout the entire experience.
Shit Happens – Short CG Movie
I developed Shit Happens with a group of four individuals over a period of four weeks. I acted as a producer, writer, director, co-animator for the “man”, and creator of the end credits. I helped create Shit Happens with the same team that would eventually create The Satan Project and I feel that this was the perfect “starter” project for the group. I think it is a nice little exploration of a small story with a twist that relies heavily on slap-stick comedy. We used Maya 6.5, Photoshop, Peak, and Shake to create the movie.
